Production Company Logo???

Ok so I've made another video its all I seem to be doing these days.
What's it about you say?
Well, dabbling with my production company name I've tried to put it into the opening. The music after the company logo is for the opening later on - which involves the cemetery scene of my storyboard.

Enjoy.

ONE

TWO

THREE

FOUR
Filming logos that i've made - speculating with some ideas and will probably be set on one soon - after I follow up with a vote among my classmates towards which one if most suitable and most preferred.

CLC Centre - Editing :)

Journey to the Central Enfield CLC

About: (from site)

The Central Enfield City Learning Centre offers a comfortable, attractive environment for school students and teachers to access the latest developments that could enhance teaching and learning in your school or subject area.
We work with students and teachers on a variety of cross-curricular, technology-based projects. Whether it’s film-making, podcasting, stop-frame-animation or web design, from CADCAM to music technology, we can support schools in helping to realise the full potential that the latest technologies offer to enhance teaching and learning.

Today we visited the CLC Centre in Enfield Town Known for its subsequently advanced technology and software.
We ventured there today to view and edit our preliminary tasks.
It was an exciting experiencing using the pr software for the first time in comparison to my basic windows movie maker at home and editing my work showed promise.
It was fun using the apple mac PCs - to be honest I'm aiming to get one for myself for future experiences.
It seems to be in a league on its own.

I felt as if I was learning to use a PC all over again perhaps a slight over exaggeration but it was intriguing.
I have so far gotten half way in editing my work seeing that I didn't have enough time due to the double period lesson which only holds fifty minutes each.
However, the editing I have accomplished so far is commendable resulting in a consistent continuity and I hope to improve more. :)

Shooting Script

(Shot No. 1-11 will be edited in a black and white filter.)
My shooting script supports my storyboard. It provides even more detail such as scheduling, locations equipment and the people needed for each shot.

My opening sequence will be shot with a prominent use of giegetic sound with a visible lack of dialogue, encouraging and amplifying anticipation for the audience.

Shot No. 0: production company intro - edited version of the production company logo - that I've already drawn up on paint and am currently awaiting the tallied result of which logo the audience would prefer (a Facebook vote among my friends).

Shot No. 1: Fade in from black and into a downward tracking/ point of view shot of the grass on the ground on the path the antagonist is walking on, which is towards the cemetery gates. Diegetic sound of the characters heartbeat (slow rhythmic pace - calm composure) will accompany her as she walks. Also the sound effects of being outside at that time that are realistic include the ringing of a cemetery bell and the howl of the wind.

Shot No. 2: Transition to a zoom/ point of view shot of the cemetery gates - as the character has reached the gates and is attempting to see beyond them before she goes any further. Diegetic sound similar to the last shot – the heartbeat (same pace), the bell and the wind.

Shot No. 3: Transition to a panning/ point of view shot of a section of the cemetery. Once again the same diegetic sound should be playing.

Shot No. 4: An accelerated look at the house the character is walking towards. The shot is faded in from black accompanied by a zoom whilst tilting upwards – displaying a shot of the house. Again the same diegetic sounds however, the antagonists heartbeat should pick up pace slightly (due to the thought of being a few steps closer to her destination).

Shot No. 5: Back-track shot of another panning/ point of view shot of the cemetery. Same diegetic sound effects as the last shot and also a sly hint of breathing should be introduced to the shots now.

Shot No. 6: A tracking/mid shot of the character (waist down) walking through the cemetery – the camera is acting as the audience in this shot. The same diegetic sounds but the breathing should be louder slightly than the last shot.

Shot No. 7: Transition to a zoom and an upward tilt of a naked tree. Once again the diegetic sound remains and the breathing should be louder than the last shot.

Shot No. 8: Transition to a high angle shot with a downward tilt on a grave stone. The same diegetic sound again the breathing rising but this is the last scene with the cemetery bells (they should have a fade out effect).

Shot No. 9: Transition to a depth of field camera focus technique with the character blurred and the house in the distance as the clear shot. The same diegetic sound should be playing the wind however should be in a more hushed up tone but the breathing should just abruptly stop the heartbeat becomes the prominent sound at this point.

Shot No. 10: Quick transition to an upward tilt shot of the path to the door (of the house). The same diegetic sound focused prominently at the heart beat.

Shot No. 11: Quick transition to another upward tilt scaling the surface of house to a bedroom window. The same diegetic sound (the wind) and the heartbeat should be at its peak (just not too fast to appear unrealistic).

(The following shots should be in their original film shot and no longer covered by the black and white filter.)

Shot No. 12: Transition to a leisurely progressive upward tilt of red bed covers. At this point all the diegetic sound is nil except the stillness of the room and moderate but hush breathing (someone sleeping).

Shot No. 13: Transition to a profile shot introducing the main protagonist while she is sleeping – which will be shot as a close up, head shot – panning slowly down her frame and stops before her head is cut out of frame. The same diegetic sound as before however the breathing should begin to rise slightly in pace (as if she’s having a bad dream).

Shot No. 14: Transition to a birds-eye view of her sleeping – it will be shot as close up, head shot at an upside down angle (headboard at the bottom of the frame chin at the top). Then the camera will tilt downwards. The same diegetic sound as before and again the       breathing becomes even pacier.

Shot No. 15: Transition to an upward tilt shot of her clutching the bed covers cutting it at the elbow. The diegetic sound is the sound of her struggling slightly on the bed (shuffles of the bed sheets) and again the breathing becomes even pacier.

Storyboard

As a vital part of my film production I had to produce a storyboard to help discipline my creativity of moving image producton. My artistic skills aren't the best, but following the template provided by my teacher I essentially sketched simple illustrations mapping out the the different shots and the editing. The storyboard is simple and clear enough that my production crew will easily be able to follow the instructions and figure where, how and what to do.

When constructing my storyboard I used my imagination and what I had observed from films to visually conceptualise what I wanted to see on screen.

However, the downside with this is that I am not sure I will be able to provide the locations (asking for permission to use the cemetery) and props (glass to break). If I can't film I will be aware of the fact clearly during filming and the risk assessment I will device.

I've predicted an approximate 2-3 minutes for the complete storyboard to play through and hopefully it will come out fluidly.

The storyboard I’ve devised is a revision of a dream state the main protagonist is caught in. I’ve decided to call this storyboard segment of the opening: the nightmare, to make it easier for myself to identify with the topic I’ve settled on focusing on for filming my opening. It'll basically display the main protagonist having a nightmare, waking up from that night mare (supposedly) to realise that she hadn’t really woke from the dream and right at the end to introduce the start of the film past the opening she finally does have a jostling wake.

This storyboard was inspired by three movies which include movies such as prom night, one hour photo and phone booth. I basically extracted and combined the concepts of all three movies that being the stalking character of prom night the deluded obsessed character of one hour photo and the psychotic observations of the character in one hour photo.

I used these characteristics to form my protagonist character in the hopes of tripling the response all three characters give to the audience but also without losing the realism and uninhibited essence of the characters personality. I've ensure this by making sure all the different character traits are easily ensemble of one another. The misconception that could possibly be drawn from this is that at times the character isn't displaying some of the traits and this could be evidence to misguidance by me of placing too many traits over the characters head.

A Slight Hitch in the Equation...

Well just read through some examiner OCR ''not so likable factors'' and it seems my idea is not a fond one to partake...
it seems they don't feel its an example that will exhibit strong/creative filming or editing skills.
Though I know this now I'm too deep to back out now and just hope I can bring my opening to life and express my efforts.
I do think that with the right filming and editing and so forth I can prove them otherwise (not prove them wrong - the examiners are never wrong.
Sweet talker I am.

Here Say the Blog...

Just Designed my Blog... Finally!!!
It was beginning to look lifeless and under worked so I thought I'd Spice it up a little and give it some personality.
Well Explanations are in order.
I chose a black background to link with the personality I feel fits well with psychological thrillers because they create a 'black mood' - not horror as to say - but dark as in atmosphere of the genre it self.
However, I felt suffocated by all the blacks and grays and so on that I ventured for a pink to highlight my personality in this gloom of a genre to link myself in it as well.
Hope my personalized blog indicates and supports some on the characteristics I've identified with thriller and myself in all as well.

Also, just to point out my personalized movie banner 'Love Me Not' situated at the bottom of the blog - hopefully it expresses what i wanted to show and encourage viewers to imagine the context of my film and attract also.

Thriller Movie Survey

Thriller Movie Questionnaire

Through the survey I tried to ask questions that'll help me in the future with deciding what my audience would want to see in my thriller movie opening.
the questions aren't complicated and the answers are indicators to audience observation/links with the genre.

Film Treatment

Film Treatment (1)

The film treatment

When constructing this treatment I had to research the fundamentals needed to construct a plot line thriller scripts seem to work around. I found that there is usually a hero and villain complex going for the plot. An event happens which causes “the cat to chase the mouse”. Then from there it’s a chase until either the cat or the mouse wins the chase, and we are exhibited through a range of ups and downs with twists and shocks and the thrill of the chase.

My film treatment establishes the main characters and the settings at their neccesaties helping create enigma.
By helping the audience understand easily where they are in the film, who is involved and fundamentally, why they should be interested

Target Audience Classifications Guidelines

British Board of Film Classification (British Board of Film Classification)

My Target Audience: 15

Suitable only for 15 years and over

No one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work.

Discrimination

The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour.

- my piece of film does not

Drugs

Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse. The misuse of easily accessible and highly dangerous substances (for example, aerosols or solvents) is unlikely to be acceptable.

Horror

Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised.

Imitable behaviour

Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.

Language

There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’). The strongest  terms (for example, ‘cunt’) may be acceptable if justified by the context. Aggressive or repeated use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable.

Nudity

Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without strong detail. There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context.

Sex

Sexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail. There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour, but the strongest references are unlikely  to be acceptable unless justified by context. Works whose primary purpose is sexual arousal or stimulation are unlikely to be acceptable.

Theme

No theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is appropriate for 15 year olds.

Violence

Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and have a strong contextual justification.

My ANALYSIS!!!!

My film is most likely going to upset some children because of the mild violence and nudity so it cannot feature as a U rated movie – it would also upset the parents of those children to be exposed to accounts unrelated to their age group. The morality of the film is lacking for it exhibits a framework offering disobedience towards parents, use of censored language and acts of sexual content between teenagers. These elements and more surely to be exposed within my film will undoubtedly ensure that the film will not offer assurances of any obscenities during viewing hence why it cannot be identified as a PG film either.
My Psychological thriller may be relentless in its course to thrill and beguile the audience. Its use of the physical and psychological threats will be strong in representation and meaning and will be sustained frequently throughout the film emphasising the importance of these characteristics to construct my thriller movie.
There is high possibility of dangerous behaviour such as acts to harm another with weapons e.g. a knife. The intent will be obviously conveyed but the literal act shall not be dwelled upon – keeping imitable behaviour at a subsequent minimum.
Strong language will be used e.g. ‘’fuck’’ but not frequently but on occasions fitting to the scene and moods of the character – also to indicate the state & type of character and somewhat convey the indication of teenagers in present day times through my observations of media and how they are represented in other films.
Nudity may be revealed in context of sexual acts or behaviour constituting exposure of self to convey a point/ grasp attention, strong details of these body parts may be needed there by establishing the length of constraint on the nude exposure.
Making the acts of sexual activity being represented suitable to a strong reference but still limiting the presentation of detailed sexual actions bent in content with getting the sexual scene as any other that a passing frame of work within the film rather than key – will show mature themes acceptable for teens age 15+.
The violent scenes within the film will be strong throughout – deeming the psychologically disturbed individual’s protagonist semblance. She will exhibit moments of madness which consents to the violence. However, the violence will not show too much gore and mark it at a minimum, promising menace and malice – whilst portraying intent without showing the cruel behaviour.
The content of my film is not aimed at showing too much but shows enough that it renders it unethically suitable to display it to children/younger teens under the age of 15 and it isn’t explicit enough to be defined as an 18.

Preliminary Task

Today my group got an opportunity to do our preliminary task

Key Shots:
Shot reverse shot
Match on action
180`rule (stick to radius)

Group:
Myself:Lenah Nyamukapa,
Leana Mugisha,
Joyce Mukoko
and Kirsty Tobin

For our preliminary task we were required to film a short clip including three continuity principles. The piece of film should include a character opening a door, walking across a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character and exchanges two sentences of conversation.

Myself alongside Joyce where the two on screen actors for this task. Joyce being the main actor who took responsibility of acting out the first shots alone and myself assisting her in the conversation at the end.
Leana and Kirsty acted as the directors/camera men for this task.

I believe that we handle the task well and hopefully we gain some useful feedback to our camera work, timing and other essential filming techniques needed for our overall coursework.

Survey

Thriller Movie Questionnairee

The idea behind this survey was to figure out what my peers though about the thriller genre and draw an idea of the criteria i might need to include to componsate what my target audience would want to watch.

Ideas Ideas Ideas

Ideas

In order to produce appropriate material for my final piece all these ideas and reserch tasks help me ensure that my approach to filming isn't wrong and i stick to the codes and conventions meant for the thriller genre only.
