Thriller Movie Opening Idea (not my chosen opening idea)

My interesting attempt at a vlog.

This vlog is focused on the first ever idea I had for my thriller movie opening. As well as practicing some amateur editing techniques, I got to represent my ideas in a different way. Its main features include why I chose to go along with this idea and what the idea is in a nutshell. The fact that I felt as if my idea wasn't concrete enough and felt overwhelmingly cliché I decided on another idea. However i had fun creating this short clip and hope to further produce my editing skills, this aiding me in my future filming and editing skills.

The idea of using a standstill camera made it easier to film because there was less shaking visible when the filming was done. This helped improve the quality of the filming and keep the focus on what was happening on the screen. I had deliberately placed the camera at mid shot level and distance so the audience can maintain their concentration on the dialogue supplemented by my hand gestures illustrating different points on the poster placed behind me. I felt that limiting the distance and emphasising the space of focus helped the audience refrain from diverting their focus, for example on insignificant occurrences such as where I got the bunny slippers I was wearing or why my puppy was pulling at my pant leg.

A problem however came from my presentational skills when filming. I debated whether or not I should have written a script to assist me explain my poster because at points it seems the dialogue becomes informal/ repetitive. Also, sound issues came up because of the distance between me and the camera hence, why I had to speak louder and clearer to be comprehensible. In the end it was an effective solution because the dialogue was audible.

The editing was interesting because I got to experiment with different transitions and effects. I also got to play with different sounds working out timing and synchronisation. A problem came when deciding on the appropriate sound bite to include in my skit. Whether it should go where and for how long, in the end I succumbed to amusing myself with any song just to open the video and end it – to keep it simple.

Next time I plan on implementing a script possibly to improve the dialogue itself and remove and disruptions from the filming area before I decide to begin and plan the music and timing to complement the whole piece in completion.
